Chromium-6 can be harmful to human health and the environment. If you would like to test your paint, coating, metal or other material for Chromium-6, make use of the MATinspired testing kit. Using the kit will produce quick, safe and reliable results, that can help you to make sure your materials are safe and avoid damage claims.
The test kit contains 25 Chromium-6 tests.
Using the test kit
Using the test kit, you can easily and effectively test to see if Chromium-6 is present in a tested material. To do this, rub the dampened sample swab on the object or material in question. If the swab stays orange/yellow, there is no Chromium-6 present. If the swab changes to red/violet/purple, the material being tested contains Chromium-6.
This test kit is ideal to test old layers of paint to see if they are safe to remove.
Testing a paint layer for Chromium-6
The test kit enables you to test a paint layer (or primer) for Chromium-6. To do this, make a few cuts into the layer. Then lightly sand the layer. Moisturize the end of the cotton swab with testing fluid and rub the cotton swab onto the paint layer. If the layer contains Chromium-6, the cotton swab will turn purple. If no Chromium-6 is present in the material, the cotton swab will remain yellow/orange.
Testing other materials with the Chromium-6 test kit
The test kit can also be utilised to test electrical components, impregnated wood, leather and other materials. Also it can be utilise to test surface contaminations, such as dust and grease. The chromium-6 fouling can also be determined in anti-seizing agents (for example antiseize paste P-37) for stainless steel nuts and bolts, which is used often for windmills. Dust, grease and anti-seize paste can be tested in a small mixing container (product TK11).

Chromium-6, is also known as Chrome(VI) or Cr(VI). It is very harmful and can cause cancer. Compounds such as Chromium(VI)Oxide, that contain Cr(VI), are often used in the paint and steel industry because of its ability to resist oxidation and the formation of rust. Due to this, it is often used in protective paint for stainless steel, aluminium, treated wood, trains and military vehicles.
Chromium-6 can cause cancer when inhaled. As well as that, it can cause genetic mutations in certain cells.
The test kit will allow you to test the material in question for Chromium-6 and take any appropriate action, if required.
